...is a film about mother earth. The makers of Microcosmos and Winged Migration continue their theme in Genesis, showing beautifully shot images of the worlds creatures.
Genesis paints a picture of how the world was created, and what creatures live on it now. The images are dazzling, as with the pairs other films. Images include The Galapagos Islands, Madagascar and Iceland. Many of the animals are shown in amazing detail. Allowing one to see what would normally be missed.

Although the images are expertly edited, Genesis lacks the 'wow' scenes that make Microcosmos and Winged Migration so great. A narrative is provided, with subtitles. An African elder describes the history of the world through its various stages. There are many assuming scenes, as in Microcosmos, making Genesis equally as appealing and suitable for children.

...is a road movie about an old man who tries to steal an insurance company for money they owed him and when everything goes wrong, runs away with a young man as a hostage. They develop a close friendship among them and they keep their way together with a girl they find in the road to the South of Argentina. Their trial of robbery is found acceptable by the people, thus, country people help them as the police is after them. Although it's an argentinian film, it handles the hollywood codes and style in an excellent way. An interesting story, good music & great sense of humor make of this one a clever film. ...Marcelo Pineyros Caballos salvajes ist ein echtes Roadmovie über einen alten Mann, der einem jungen Bankangestellten droht, sich auf der Stelle zu erschießen, wenn er nicht genau jenen Geldbetrag zurückbekäme, um den ihn die Bank vor Jahren betrogen habe. Wie in Tango Feroz setzt Pineyro auf die unterhaltsame Umsetzung seiner Sozialkritik: „Für mich ist das Genre keine Fessel, sondern eine Hilfe“, so der Regisseur. „Ich möchte Filme machen, die die Leute ins Kino locken, die mit den anderen Filmen konkurrieren und trotzdem etwas an sozialen Werten vermitteln.“ Mit Cenizas del paraíso hat Pineyro sein bisher reifstes Werk gedreht. In Rückblenden und wechselnden Erzählperspektiven wird der Mord an einem jungen Mädchen und der scheinbare Unfall eines Untersuchungsrichters rekonstruiert. Der fesselnde Thriller liefert ein düsteres Bild des von Korruption zerfressenen modernen Argentiniens. Am Ende des Films heißt es lakonisch: „Gerechtigkeit wird es nicht geben.“... (Matices)

...is set in Ghorbadi’s native Kurdistan on the eve of the American invasion of Iraq. Thirteen-year-old Soran (Soran Ebrahim) is known as “Satellite,” for his installation of dishes and antennae for local villages looking for news of Saddam. He is the dynamic leader of the children, organizing the dangerous but necessary sweeping and clearing of the minefields. He then arranges trade-ins for the unexploded mines. The industrious Satellite falls for an unlikely orphan (Avaz Latif), a sad-faced girl traveling with her brother Henkov (Hirsh Feyssal), who appears to have the gift of clairvoyance. The siblings are care-taking a three-year-old, whose connection to the pair is discovered as harsh truths are unveiled.

...es un viaje privilegiado a una de las zonas de China que más se ha transformado debido al proyecto faraónico de la presa de las Tres Gargantas. En este viaje escénico son, sin embargo, las personas quienes le dan vida frente a la epopeya de la demolición y reubicación de centenares de miles de habitantes. Entre una climatología lluviosa y de un calor sofocante uno va entrando poco a poco no tanto en la trama en sí sino en la esencia de una transformación paisajística y humana.

El argumento de la narración es bien simple. Un minero, Sanming y una enfermera, Shen Hong vuelven a la ciudad de Fengjie que está quedando sumergida por el agua de la presa. Mientras Sanming busca a su mujer que le dejó hace 16 años, la enfermera quiere encontrarse con su marido al que no ve de hace 2 años. Con esta sinopsis simple, sin embargo, el director Jia Zhang-ke nos narra una historia mucho más compleja tejida con una exquisita sensibilidad a pesar del drama de fondo en el que viven todos los personajes... The film tells the story of Collé, who after losing two daughters in childbirth due to her own botched circumcision, has refused to allow her surviving daughter, Amasatou, to be cut. So when four girls escape the circumcision ceremony, she is only too eager to provide them with moolaadé (protection). The menfolk of the village resent her interference in what they see as the law of Islam, and matters are further complicated when plans for Amasatou's marriage are halted when it's discovered she hasn't been under the knife.

Der Filmer spiegelt es an den angeblich paradiesischen Zuständen in Kanada, England, Frankreich und - ausgerechnet - Kuba. Seine Charaktere erreichen zuweilen einen rabiaten Zynismus im Umgang mit ihren branchenspezifischen Problemen, dass einem der Lacher schon mal im Halse stecken bleiben kann. Doch werden die Pointen nie ins Lächerliche überspitzt und behalten so ihren Charme - gerade aus ihrer Grenzwertigkeit gegenüber dem gängigen Geschmack. Und trotz des vermittelnden Schlusses hinterlässt dieser Film nicht den bitteren Nachgeschmack eines sonst so oft gesehenen sentimentalen Konsenses einer angepassten Gesellschaftsmoral...
